Simon Davey
Simon is an experienced teacher, musician and workshop facilitator.
Simon is an experienced teacher, musician and workshop facilitator. His teaching career spans 35 years. He began as a drama teacher in Salford where he worked in three inner city schools, directing several ambitious productions; two self-penned. He was head of department in all three schools and head of performing arts before moving to East Yorkshire in 1992. He became head of faculty of expressive arts at the largest school in the north of England. The knowledge and skills gained through a masters degree at that time widened his portfolio to include the teaching of media studies.
In 2007 he left that role to apply his experiences to a wider range of settings as an independent educational consultant. He has trained teachers in drama and media education on themes such as Managing behaviour in the performance space, Running the successful media studies department and Creating effective devised projects. He has presented workshops to schools, youth and community groups on topics related to fair trade, citizenship and youth voice.
He has performed his own compositions and traditional English and Irish music in his local area, nationally and abroad both as a solo musician and as a member of groups. He has recorded two albums.
Simon continues to develop and deliver learning programmes exploring themes through combined arts projects; utilising song writing to engage young people in active citizenship; and through drama, his passion, as a cross curricular learning medium.
Simon became a CLADA associate in 2009. He was the co-ordinator of the 2010 Interact co-operative learning conference - Being and Belonging.
CLADA is an association of educationalists and facilitators who work in co-operative, educational and social enterprise settings. We aim to inspire and empower individuals and groups to engage with and shape the communities in which they live, work and learn.
