CLADA on the Road

Activity Date:

Sutherland Business and Enterprise College, Telford - an award-winning co-operative school, was the first venue for our 'On the Road' programme. Lee Taylor, the Deputy Headteacher and CLADA affiliate, co-ordinated the day to ensure maximum staff exposure to the sessions.

Working with Midcounties Co-operative Society, we worked with two groups of Year 9 students on the dual themes of co-operative citizenship within the school and within the community. The school already has links with the Co-op and has embedded the values and principles in its approach. We wanted to demonstrate our brand of transferable co-operative teaching and learning styles to the students and the many staff who took time to visit the sessions. Staff and committee members from Midcounties were also in attendance to monitor the impact of the event. Year 11 students assisted the process and were extremely effective, learning much themselves about communicating with younger students. Initial feedback from the school was very positive - transferable techniques and a request for more work with staff. The day certainly generated lots of interest and ideas for work in other areas. We are developing our 'On the Road' programme further - watch this space.

CLADA is an association of educationalists and facilitators who work in co-operative, educational and social enterprise settings. We aim to inspire and empower individuals and groups to engage with and shape the communities in which they live, work and learn.
